Rumors are running rampant that Ubisoft has another Splinter Cell game in the works and will be announcing it soon at this year's E3 during their press conference, next week. The name of the game? Splinter Cell: Black List, and supposedly it will be a direct sequel to Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Before getting to the platform details and whatnot, IGN is reporting that the reason it's called Black List is because Sam Fisher will be involved in a plot that “...will be based on his enemies targeted as Blacklist.”
Additional information was present on the Neogaf Forums which also links to a tweet that doesn't really confirm anything. Now if you can get past the Google translate-quality grammar, you'll find that the game seems to feature a younger(?) Sam Fisher in a game that centers on a story that succeeds Conviction. Based on his description (and assuming he's not trolling) it sounds like it could bounce back and forth between the new and the old Sam (potentially flashbacks?) because he mentions that Sam no longer has gray hair...which means it's either clone-Sam and Splinter Cell has officially entered Metal Gear territory, or as mentioned, you'll be playing some flashback scenes.
On the upside, it's mentioned that Sam gets his tri-goggles back and will be outfitted in his traditional black spandex suit with all his cool gear.
Now for those of you wondering if there is any weight to these rumors, I can verify that there is. Splinter Cell: Black List (if that is its name) has been in development since 2010 at the Ubisoft Tronto Studios headed up by Jade Raymond.
Most commenters are hoping (begging and pleading, too) that the newest game will have a single-player mode like Chaos Theory (which is arguably the best in the series), a multiplayer co-op mode like Conviction (which is arguably the best co-op in the series) and a competitive Mercs vs Spies multiplayer mode like Pandora Tomorrow (which had arguably the best competitive multiplayer in the series).
I guess we'll soon find out next week.
