Sports Champions 2 Beefs Up Archery Offerings

Now that the Olympics have wrapped up, it's time for gamers of all ages to put their own virtual skills to the test in Sports Champions 2 for the PlayStation 3. Sony's latest Move title features six activities including skiing, tennis, boxing, bowling, golf and, of course, archery.

I say “of course” because these past twelve months have pretty much been the year of the bow and arrow with movies like The Hunger Games, Brave, and The Avengers featuring archery in a major capacity. It's also a key plot point in We Need to Talk About Kevin, but that's a dark path of discussion best suited to when we're not talking about a family-friendly motion-controlled video game.

Zindagi Games Project Manager Colin O'Hara visited the PlayStation Blog recently to highlight what makes Sports Champions 2's archery challenges so much more entertaining than the first go round.

“...Our primary goal with archery this time around was to combine the competitive nature of the original game with the fast-paced, high-action style of Medival Moves: Deadmund's Quest archery,” O'Hara said. “The idea was to maintain the tried-and-true archery mechanics from those two games while really emphasizing and expanding on the arcade element of the gameplay.”

As a result, Sports Champions 2 features a wide array of archery modes for players to dive into...though Diving Archery is not one of them.

Marksmanship is your standard competition of seeing who can hit the most targets the fastest, and for the most points. Shooting Gallery gives players a bunch of random items to shoot while Memory is similar to the card game by the same name only, instead of flipping cards to reveal matching sets, you'll be shooting colored targets. In Race, players will try to raise their flag before their opponent by shooting a target. The closer tot he bulls eye you shoot, the faster the flag is raised. In Push, players fire from opposite sides of the field, trying to shoot carts in order to make them reach their opponents' side. Think of Rally as volleyball for archery. A large cube floats in the air and players shoot arrows at it to pass it back and forth until it hits the ground.

If all the bow and arrow action on the silver screen has you itching to make like Robin Hood from the comfort of your own home, you might want to check out Sports Champions 2 when it releases later this fall.
