Today Atari released thirteen new screenshots of Star Trek Online. The shots demonstrate that the Cryptic-developed MMO will have plenty of action in space and on planets.

STO players join either the Klingon Empire or Federation Starfleet and command their own ship. Much like Captain Kirk, though, they'll abandon their post regularly to perform planetary missions. Lots of red-shirted NPC's likely die in the process.

The closed beta for STO began last week. The game is slated to be released to the public in the first quarter of next year.
