Star Trek: The Video Game Trailer Features Shatner And A Gorn
An epic feud begun more than 40 years ago continues today with the release of a brand new trailer for Star Trek: The Video Game. In it, Captain Kirk himself wages war against his long time nemesis, the evil Gorn. In the wise words of Sulu, “oh my.”
By now, the classic battle between Kirk and the Gorn, taken from the 1967 episode of Star Trek called “Arena,” has become the stuff of legend. Thanks to the wonders of Youtube, memes and the like, pretty much everyone has seen the somewhat (or “completely,” really) ridiculous battle feautring William Shatner and a stuntman in a plastic suit throwing space rocks.
We recently announced that the Gorn species will actually be the primary foe in the upcoming Star Trek: The Video Game an adventure that takes place between the first two rebooted movies. To celebrate this fact, the above trailer was put together to feature the original brawl, choreographed punch for punch to look like the original, only now set in someone's comfy living room.
“What better way to spotlight the adventure and fun everyone can have actually playing as Capt. Kirk in the new game than to team up the legendary former captain himself to play one of his old foes,” said President of Consumer Products at Paramount Pictures, LeeAnne Stables. “Mr. Shatner is such a great sport and that Gorn had absolutely no chance of coming out on top this time.”
In the upcoming game, players will be able to take on a brand new story in co-op as Kirk and his trusty friend, Spock. Look for Star Trek: The Video Game to arrive on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on April 26.
