Today LucasArts revealed that they're bringing an all-new installment of Star Wars Battlefront to the DS and PSP. Star Wars: Elite Squadron will arrive on both handheld systems later this year.
Elite Squadron is the first game in the series to use multi-level battlefronts. If you start the battle on foot, for example, you can grab a starship and fly out into space for some dogfighting or board an enemy capital ship. The fights on each of these fronts are said to affect each other, as well. The game boasts a single-player campaign that "spans the entire Star Wars Saga — and beyond." Players control X2, a clone trooper created from the DNA of a Jedi Master who turns his back on the Empire and joins the Rebellion. On the multiplayer side of things, the PSP will have 16-player battles while the DS will support skirmishes for up to 4 players. Both systems' online offerings will allow players to step into the shoes of classic Star Wars characters and duke it out in settings popularized by the films. The release date is currently listed on the game's official website as Fall 2009. Two weeks ago, LucasArts announced that Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes would arrive in September for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PC. |
