Gamescom is up and running, getting everyone excited about the future of gaming. But in said anticipation, we can't turn a blind eye on the present, because the present is where stuff like weekly PlayStation Plus updates are taking place and, this week, it includes free Star Wars Pinball.

We're just a few hours away from hearing Sony's PlayStation 4 launch plans, as well as updates on all things PS3, Vita and PSN at the Gamescom press conference. In the meantime, however, some of the day's best news comes in the form of a couple of free games and a bunch of great discounts for those who subscribe to Sony's premium service plan.

This week's offerings begin with Zen Pinball 2: Star Wars, a cross-buy title for the PS3 and Vita. Usually costing 10 bucks, this Plus goodie will offer all three of the current Star Wars pinball tables pro bono, taking pinheads to a galaxy far, far away with tables themed after Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, The Clone Wars animated series and everyone's favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett.

Each of the Star Wars tables offer their own unique rules, sounds and effects taken directly from their source material and all sorts of nifty interactive table events that couldn't be pulled off with a real-world pinball table. They're all quality tables, and they're all included in this week's Plus update.

For those of you gaming on the go, Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower is also available at no charge this week, a PSP game that's compatible with the Vita. A 2D fighting game, what sets Darkstalkers apart from the pack is its cast of classic monster-inspired combatants and a love for all things that go bump in the night.

Plus members will also gain access to the Killzone: Mercenary public beta this week, meaning all you have to do is download the client and jump in the game in order to get a taste of the latest multiplayer features headed to the Vita shooter.

If you're looking to save money on games new and old, then Plus also has you covered this week. Both Divekick and Ms. Germinator will be marked down by 20 percent for Plus this week ($7.99 a pop), both of which are also cross-buy offerings.

The PS Vita Japanese Game Sale also continues this week, offering discounts on nine games to everyone shopping on the PlayStation Network, and even deeper discounts for those Plus subscribers. This week's list includes games like Street Fighter X Tekken PS Vita, Ragnarok Odyssey, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection PS Vita and the recently released Muramasa Rebirth.

A Made in Canada Fan Expo sale is also being offered this week, once again discounting a bunch of PS3 and Vita games for all comers and giving an additional drop in price for Plusers. Highlights include Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon for $7.34, Critter Crunch for $1.75 and Guacamelee! for $7.34.

For more details on this week's Plus offerings and a full list of discounted games and their various prices, be sure to check out the PlayStation Blog. Otherwise, you can start downloading the games and taking advantage of this week's discounts once the PlayStation Store updates this afternoon.
