Tatooine, the old stomping grounds of Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, will be a playable planet in Star Wars: The Old Republic. BioWare released some screenshots, concept art, and backstory on the remote desert world.

During the time period of SW:TOR, Tatooine is still a haven for smugglers, pirates, and other unsavory types. The Galactic Republic stops here for resupplies but has no official presence. That's sure to change once they realize that the Sith Empire is looking for an abandoned weapons cache in the desert, though.

Old Republic is expected in late 2010. BioWare is currently accepting beta applications. If I happen to get into said beta, the first thing I'm going to do is try to jump in the Sarlacc.
