Today Blizzard updated the official StarCraft II website with a slew of single-player and multiplayer screenshots from StarCraft II. There are also a couple character pictures, including one scientist who resembles everyone's favorite moose-hunting politician.
The images are from two new features about SC2's development. The first explores the design process behind The Evacuation of Agria, a mission from the first single-player campaign. Jim Raynor and his band of mercenaries receive a distress call from a planet under attack by the Zerg, and they must escort the colonists to safety. The previously mentioned Palin lookalike is Dr. Ariel Hanson, a scientist from the tyrannical Dominion government that abandoned the inhabitants of Agria to their fate.
The other feature gives us a look at two 1v1 multiplayer maps, Blistering Sands and The Steppes of War. There are several new factors for Blizzard to take into account when creating these maps. For example, new units like the Protoss Colossi are able to climb cliffsides.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, containing the first campaign and full multiplayer component, is expected to be released in the first half of 2010. The beta is slated for early 2010.
