Capcom has gone and done a great service to Mega Man fans...sort of. The Blue Bomber will be making a return to form in celebration of Street Fighter's 25th anniversary with Street Fighter X Mega Man for PC. It will be a digital download game and yes, it will be a real game.
Christian Svensson, SVP of Consumer Software at Capcom USA commented in the press release about the game, saying...
“Our fans have been so supportive of the 25th Anniversary efforts on Street Fighter, that we wanted to provide one last surprise and token of our appreciation,”... “This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up, we felt it was our duty to bring this wonderful experience to everyone who has shared the last 25 years with us and both of these celebrated franchises.”
It's weird that Street Fighter gets a big hoo-tada but Mega Man gets a lot of flaccid treatment. His appearance in Street Fighter X Tekken was quite distasteful and he's been absent from any major releases in the past couple of years save for some digital appearances every once in a while. It almost seems as if Capcom is ashamed of the Blue Boy Wonder.
Nevertheless, with Street Fighter X Mega Man, gamers will be able to rekindle some of the magic that made the Blue Bomber popular back in the day. The game will feature eight bosses from the Street Fighter universe, with players having to traverse the levels in classic Mega Man style and then face off against the bosses at the end.
The visuals and aesthetics will be basked in a retro tone and an original soundtrack will be developed by Luke Esquivel. You can look for the game to launch on December 17th of this year for PC, for free via Capcom's website.
