Earlier this year it was announced that two of the biggest icons in gaming would be coming together for the first time to compete mano y hedgehog at the…Olympics. Since then it’s been difficult to muster up any significant appreciation for the game. Feelings on the first teaming of Mario and Sonic has left us on a bare simmer, at best. We now have the latest trailer for Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, and we’re still waiting for that rush to hit us. Ironically, the announcement of the two mascots being in a game together is more tantalizing than the game it resulted in.
Mario & Sonic is an officially licensed Olympics title, and features all the games you’d expect. You’ll sprint the 100m, leap in the high jump, and test your mettle in archery. All of this is nice, and final judgment will be made when we get to touch the game. But seriously, this is the first game for these two? It might be sour grapes that Smash Bros. isn’t our initial taste of the mustachioed hero and the blue speedster, but even so we can’t help but be slightly let down. That’s not to say the game doesn’t look promising. The latest trailer below looks pretty nice. And no, not just for a Wii game. We happen to like the way many Wii titles look, mud tones do get old after awhile. We can only hope the game plays like a refined Wii Sports title. It could be fun to take on the role of Miles “Tails” Prower and battle it out with Yoshi in table tennis. Like it or not hardcore gamers, this title is going to sell by the bucket load. Watch the TGS trailer below, and wonder if Sonic had to take valium in order to compete. |
