Set for release on the PlayStation 3 in Japan on December 17th for later this year, Square Enix released a new trailer of the game showcasing gameplay, exploration and the always impressive cinematics.

I know I’ve ranted on this game a lot for its disappointing fighting mechanics, especially in comparison to Tri-Ace’s revolutionary new bullet-ballet RPG The Lest Remnant. However, it appears as if FFXIII’s main focus of gameplay will reside within its storytelling elements rather than doing something new with the combat. This is not to say that the new combo-turn-based system isn’t bad, it’s just not quite as original compared to some newer RPGs about to be released, including Square’s own Nier Replicant.
