There’s no question or doubts about it anymore, Quantum Theory is officially the PlayStation 3’s answer to the Xbox 360’s Gears of War. The new cinematic/gameplay trailer showcases a hulking hero facing off against mutated hordes with destructible environments and wall-hugging action. Sound familiar? Well, it should…the game is like a dead-on replica of Epic’s gritty, post-apocalyptic masterpiece.

Players will basically travel around through deformed towers battling hordes of mutated soldiers. They look a lot like Japanese envisioned versions of the Locust horde and that’s no joke. The hero looks an awful lot like Marcus Fenix, too…heck, he even sounds like him. Players can even hunker down behind objects, blind fire for suppression and destroy certain cover-objects, just like in Gears of War 2.

The biggest change, however, is that the lead protagonist is accompanied by a female fantasy character. Together they can perform tag-team moves and use melee attacks to kick the crap out of enemies. It looks like a fun game and it won’t be surprising to see some versus articles between Gears of War and Quantum Theory.
