Retro gaming enthusiasts looking to wreak havoc with digital Bo Jackson will not be able to do so on the Wii. Tecmo confirmed today that their Tecmo Bowl remake for the Wii is now on hold.

On Friday, Tecmo announced that a game called Family Fun Football for the Wii. Apparently the Wii Tecmo Bowl morphed into Family Fun somewhere along the way. "Given the recent trend on the Wii and its target audience, Tecmo made a business decision to switch the project into a family oriented football game," a Tecmo spokesperson told G4.

The spokesperson added that an Xbox Live Arcade version of Tecmo Bowl was still in development, however. It's due in early 2010, which means it'll probably miss the entire NFL season but at least it won't have to compete with the release of Madden in the summer.
