2K Sports announced today that Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder will be the cover athlete for arcade-style baseball game The Bigs 2. They've also revealed the exact day the game will be in stores.
Son of former Detroit Tigers great Cecil Fielder, Prince was the youngest player to hit 50 home runs in a season. During that same season, he also won the Hank Aaron Award, an honor bestowed upon outstanding offensive players. Based on The Bigs 2's debut trailer, I almost expected some Hall of Famer to appear on the cover but sports games tend to favor young and upcoming athletes.
"I’ve been playing baseball video games for as long as I can remember," said Fielder. "All of my idols have appeared on a video game cover, and now to have that same opportunity is truly an unbelievable feeling. I can’t wait to see myself in The Bigs 2. I’ll be the guy crushing mammoth home runs into the stands.”
The Bigs 2 will be released for the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, PS2, and Wii on July 7th.
