The Munchables Get Hardcore For Nintendo Wii

published: 2009-03-03 12:07:16
Obviously someone at Namco was playing that old Basic (Q-basic to new-schoolers) game called Snake, in which gamers directed a digital snake around to eat things and grow larger. Afterward, a light-bulb must have popped in their head, shattered into fragments and cut open an idea that was buried deep in the recesses of their mind…that idea is obviously the newly announced Wii game, The Munchables.

Take the classic Snake concept and switch the Snake for, uh, Munchables. Now add a farcical story that involves an evil Onion – Don Onion, to be exact – trying to take over the Munchables home planet. Toss in the ability to eat a bunch of stuff and grow larger (ala Noby Noby Boy) and splash some unimaginative graphics over it and you have The Munchables, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.

“NAMCO BANDAI Games is thrilled to provide such a fun and exciting addition to the vast library of quality Wii titles,” said Todd Thorson, director of marketing and public relations for Namco Bandai Games America. “With colorful characters and eye-popping worlds, The Munchables will delight players of all ages.”

Well, I’m quite positive gamers from 10 on down will find this game highly enjoyable…but “delight players of all ages”? Stretching a bit, I’d say. There’s more than 150 enemies to take on, a mirror mode that pits players against a clock while doing the stages in reverse order, and plenty of bosses to face off against. If I must say so myself, the characters look an awful lot like rejected Pokemon. But that’s just me. There’s some screenshots below just in case you need to see for yourself.

The game is due out this May for the Nintendo Wii. You can learn more by visiting the Official Namco Bandai Website. For more gaming news, info and updates, be sure to stay tuned in with Blend Games.
