EA announced today that The Sims 3 has gone "gold". The sequel to the best-selling Sims 2 will arrive in stores as scheduled on June 2nd.

If you're thinking of reserving a copy, note that you have two options. You can get the regular old game for $49.99 or throw down an extra twenty for the Collector's Edition. The Sims 3 CE comes with the following extras:
  • 2 GB Plumbob™ USB drive with matching green carabiner
  • Exclusive, downloadable European sports car for your Sims
  • Prima Tips & Hints Guide
  • Quick start reference guide
  • Plumbob sticker sheet
Wondering if your computer can run the game? Check out the system requirements here. Sims 3 was originally supposed to be released on February 20th but was pushed back by EA at the last minute. The company inferred that sales/marketing concerns drove the decision.
