Tim Schafer: Don't Worry About Brutal Legend's Sales

Double Fine Productions's first game, Psychonauts, received a lot of praise from gamers and critics but didn't do very well with sales. There's some anxiety about the same thing happening with their upcoming heavy metal action-adventure Brutal Legend but Double Fine boss Tim Schafer doesn't want you to fret.

"Fans worry too much about sales, to tell you the truth,” Schafer said to MTV Multiplayer. “As long as you make a cool game, publishers want to talk to you.… [They say,] ‘We liked Psychonauts. and we think we could have sold it better.’"

I understand gamers' nervousness about sales - if an innovative game doesn't sell well, it could cause publishers will be more likely to stick to "safe" projects in the future. Still, if a studio's making great stuff - and Double Fine does - then their phone's going to keep ringing.
