Tomb Raider Not Coming To Wii U, Mac Version Possible

The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot was announced for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. It's possible that Crystal Dynamics will bring the game to other platforms but global brand director Karl Stewart thinks that a Wii U version is unlikely. He says that they'd have to make a Wii U Tomb Raider from scratch.

"At this time no," Stewart said when asked if a Wii U version was in development. "When we started developing the game we made a conscious decision that it was all about building the game for a platform and making sure the game was specific to that platform. Given that we’ve been working on the game quite a while before Wii U was announced I think it would not be right to try and port it across. If we started building a game for the Wii U we would build it very differently and we would build it with unique functionality."

A Mac version would be a simpler feat and is much more likely to happen, according to Stewart. In fact, CD has already started investigating the possibility.

"We’re in the middle of discussions with a company looking to do just that. I’d love to be able to see it day and date with the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC release, but there is a technological aspect to it as well that we would need to achieve. I want a Mac version because I love my Mac.”

Tomb Raider restarts the series' story. It stars a 21-year-old Lara Croft who recently graduated from school. She heads to an island off the coast of Japan in search of forgotten relics. However, the salvage ship she's traveling on is destroyed by a storm right before it reaches the island. Croft finds herself alone in a hostile land without any supplies.

CD expects to release TR this fall.
