Toukiden: The Age Of Demons Gets Some Oni-Slaying New Details

Demons got you down? Monsters interfering with your day to day life? Well, Tecmo Koei has just the solution you've been looking for. Arriving in the US on Feb. 11, Toukiden: The Age of Demons is guaranteed to tackle the toughest monster problems or your money back.

Okay, so maybe the game doesn't actually work against real demons and that money-back guarantee was a bit of an exaggeration, but the fact that one of the most hotly anticipated Vita games for 2014 finally has a release date is 100 percent true and, hey, it's right around the corner.

Fans of games like Monster Hunter and Soul Sacrifice will feel right at home with Toukiden, a game all about teaming up with friends and hunting down larger-than-life monsters as a team. Tecmo Koei Europe's Community Manager, Chin Soon Sun, recently made the Feb. 11 launch date official, as well as dropping some additional details about the upcoming portable hunting game.

“Set against a backdrop inspired by various historical periods of Japan, Toukiden tells the tale of humanity's last stand for survival,” Sun said. “When monstrous demons of varying strength and size invade the world through cracks in space and time and started attacking humans, the only opposition came from the Slayers.”

It turns out that you just so happen to be one of those slayers, and your specialty, oddly enough, is brutalizing the invading oni with a wide array of weapons and magical abilities. Your player character is fully customizable, with options to alter your physical appearance, weapons, gear and more.

“Posessing a potent life force, the oni have the remarkable ability to regenerate themselves,” Sun continues. “No matter how much damage their bodies may take, they will look for an opportunity to recover as long as they have sufficient life force remaining.”

That means it will be up to you and your friends to make sure the oni never get that chance. Focus your attacks on specific body parts, tear them down one limb at a time, and then perform the Ritual of Purification to prevent them from ever regenerating again. It sounds simple in black and white, but most of these baddies are extremely tough and the size of an oak tree, so the players will certainly have their work cut out for them when Toukiden: The Age of Demons arrives for the PlayStation Vita on Feb. 11.
