Toys R Us Video Game Trade-In Service Launches Nationwide

Toys R Us' video game trade-in program, active on a trial basis in select markets since March, has now been incorporated into all Toys R Us locations nationwide.

>This trade-in program is a bit different than other services offered by different electronic retailers such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and GameStop. Toys 'R Us will be taking games ranging all the way from the Atari 2600 on up. The only place I know of, off the top of my head that will take your old Atari games is Ebay, and even then you'd be hard pressed to find a buyer.

The massive toy retailer has one major stipulation for trading in these ancient games: they must be in the original box...if they haven't eroded away already. During the trial, Toys R Us wasn't accepting "Adults Only" games so perhaps that applies to the nationwide program as well. When you trade in any of your games you will receive store credit that will be good at any Toys R Us, Babies R Us, or their corresponding online retailers.

"This program is designed to make the exchange process completely hassle-free for customers by accepting games from even the oldest systems, including the original Atari 2600 and 32-bit Sega Genesis," said Bill Lee, the Vice President of Divisional Merchandise Managing at Toys R Us, in a recent statement.

Those of you hoarding E.T. or Pong, it's time to let go.
