Transient Shift, Possible Sleeper-Hit Through Xbox 360's Digital Service

Transient Shift, Possible Sleeper-Hit Through Xbox 360's Digital Service If all goes as planned, it looks like up-and-coming game development studio Broken Attitude, could have a smash hit on their hands using Microsoft’s Digital Distribution through Xbox Live. The game is Transient Shift and it’s mirrored on the premise of Time Splitters, but with a dash of Perfect Dark and Duke Nukem.

Nothing is in the ground just yet, but Randy Wilson, the CEO of Broken Attitude has high hopes to see his first-person shooter game soar. In an interview I recently had with him, he stated that “We're actually aiming for a July release, pending progress on a few areas over the next 2 months. We've also been considering joining Microsoft's Xbox digital distribution system” He continued on to say, “We would like to release it as a full game over the digital network, but it simply comes down to the guidelines and restrictions proposed by Microsoft, which we are awaiting details on.” ...”We would love to have Transient Shift on the console, as we intend to expand out into the console market with future titles.”

But let’s not get confused here, Transient Shift is NOT being developed as an official third-party Xbox 360 digital distribution title. I asked Randy if the team would be considering making Transient Shift an official port for the 360, and he responded with the following: “It is possible, and of course, relevant to the game's success and the funding at the time. Xbox 360 development is a pricey ordeal. Revamping the characters, weapons and level models would take quite a few resources, but if the demand is there, we'd do it. We also haven't given up on the idea of making a Wii port if the game is successful.”

Broken Attitude is definitely going to licence the Transient Shift Engine out to other developers, as the game has been in development since 2004 and has undergone major revamping. Randy, who’s also the lead designer of Transient Shift, has actually had the game revamped for Direct X 9. The game will be multiplayer focused and will offer gamers multiple characters and locations to duke it out in. Again, the entire theme in the game will be like Time Splitters, where different time zones and characters from those time zones are the focal point. This 8-player first-person shooter is aimed for a summer release in July, and a beta coming in spring. If all goes well with Broken Attitude and their distribution deal with Microsoft, then I guess it’ll be a Cinderella story come true.
