As many PS3 owners have noticed, Assassin’s Creed is a massive headache. As had been mentioned in our review of the game, it freezes and crashes far too often for anyone’s taste. I didn’t think anything of it because my PS3 is beaten up already and I figured it was just me. I was surprised to see people have taken to the forums angry with the anomalous floating Altair. Popular Mechanics recently spoke with the senior public relations manager of Ubisoft who responded with an answer that may as well have been a “damned if I know.”
Just like the doctor in the joke with the punchline of “well don’t do that if it hurts” Ubisoft has noticed a drop in complaints about this problem when people turn off the automatic login option to the PSNetwork. One: That’s something completely unrelated to the game. Two: Should I really have to change my settings just so I can play my game? Never mind the fact that it didn’t work for Popular Mechanics and it didn’t work for me either.
Recently there was hope that the last update of the PS firmware would fix this problem, but that turned out to be poorly laid hope. Ultimately what Beadle’s response tells us is that we’ll have to continue turning our PS3 on and off to play until someone at Ubisoft stops looking at things and going “wow, that sure looks weird, but it’ll be okay.”
