The Unfinished Swan Is Santa Monica's New PS3 Exclusive

It was recently reported here at Gaming Blend that the SCE first-party studio, Santa Monica, was hiring for an upcoming first-person shooter. Well, turns out the shooter was a lot closer to an announcement than we originally thought, and it's called The Unfinished Swan.

The game is being designed primarily by Giant Sparrow with additional help from Santa Monica. The trailer and a few snippets of gameplay details come courtesy of Twinfinite, who reveals that players will assume the role of a young boy named Monroe, in search of the Swan you see him taking chase to throughout the brief teaser trailer below. Check it out.

The gimmick for the game is that you use the Move to throw paint at the environment to sort of bring it to life or uncover aspects of where you need to go or what you need to do, a little bit like De Blob for the Nintendo Wii. There's much more to the game than that, and it's quite obvious given the escalating intrigue and mysteriously energetic and adventuristic soundtrack that accompanies the game, hinting at players that there is so much more to the game than a blank canvas waiting to be painted.

The world, the art-style and the premise itself looks and feels very creative, and if the game is even half as good as Journey then I'm sure Santa Monica and Giant Sparrow Games will be looking at a big critical and commercial success on their hands.

The game is set for release exclusively on the PlayStation 3. Expect more details and gameplay revelations to surface at this year's upcoming E3. The indie title has only recently been officially announced and you can grab some additional, although scarce, details over at the Official PlayStation Blog.
