The awesome 2008 RPG from Sega landed some amazing review scores, even here at Blend Games. Nevertheless, gamers just didn’t buy the original Valkyria Chronicles action-RPG enough for the PS3 to warrant another console sequel. Instead, Sega has re-routed resources for a direct-to-portable sequel. And yes, that’s nearly equivalent to a direct-to-DVD port of a movie. Anyway, two new Japanese gameplay trailers have become available for public viewing. Much like the first game, the action is still in real-time and the RPG elements are still intact.

Despite the odd marketing tactics by Sega, it’s obvious that the sequel to one of the best reviewed RPGs of 2008 is now a portable RPG for 2009. The new Japanese-based battle gameplay trailers don’t do much to explain the story, gameplay or plot. But what does it matter when stuff gets blown up and people get shot?
