Virtual Console Monday: Harvest Moon And Lords Of Thunder

Two more titles are hitting Nintendo’s Virtual Console, and at least there’s something to interest a few people. Harvest Moon for the SNES is the first in the now hugely popular series, and Lords of Thunder for the TurboGrafx-16 has players mindlessly shooting things. Both games have their merits; it just depends on whether you feel like tending the fields or shooting enemies with “heavy metal” playing loudly in your face.

I’m a mild fan of Harvest Moon in that I enjoy the relaxed nature of the game. Sitting around watering veggies and feeding the livestock is a stress reliever. The only problem is I can do that in real life, and we have professional farmers to take care of that. My problem is that each week something I don’t care about releases on Virtual Console I contemplate it’s usefulness. And then they drop Waverace 64 on my face and I can’t help but extol the virtues of Nintendo’s download service.

Walking by an old school used game store recently I saw a collection of NES and SNES titles on display and one stuck out. One game that I played relentlessly as a young lad, but had all but forgotten in my advanced years, is Uniracers. It’s the perfect racing game and needs to be released on VC as soon as possible. Perhaps as part of the run up to Mario Kart Wii some classic racers can come out and we’ll all get our Uniracers fix. You know you want it too, that game kicked 78 kinds of ass.
