Walking Dead Developer's Next Game Coming Friday
This week Walking Dead adventure game creators Telltale will release the premiere episode of their next game. The Wolf Among Us, inspired by the Eisner Award-winning comic book series Fables, will debut on Friday on PC and Xbox 360.
The Wolf Among Us stars Bigby Wolf, a detective. He was once the Big Bad Wolf, a fairy tale character who fled his homeland centuries ago. He and the other fairy tale characters, known as "Fables," were driven from their home by a tyrant known only as "The Adversary." The Fables now live together in a hidden community in New York City and keep their identities hidden from "normal" people through magic.
Players will control Bigby as he investigates a murder in Fabletown. In the course of his investigation, he'll encounter several other fairytale characters now living in the real world. For example, Ichabod Crane is Deputy Mayor of Fabletown and his assistant is Snow White.
"If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead, we think you’ll like The Wolf Among Us," Telltale says. "You’ll feel right at home with the controls and the way that the game plays. Like The Walking Dead, it is an adventure game focused on story and characters. More importantly, unlike many other games, The Wolf Among Us is driven by the choices that YOU make: we see you as the final collaborator in telling the story of the game."
The story of Wolf Among Us will play out over five episodes. Telltale estimates that each will take about 2 hours to complete. The company hasn't announced their exact schedule for the season but if Walking Dead was any indication, you'll have to wait a month or two for each new episode.
Wolf Among Us's first episode, "Faith," will be released on Xbox 360 and PC this Friday. Xbox 360 owners can buy the episode for $4.99 or purchase a Season Pass to get all five at a discount. PC gamers, meanwhile, will have to buy the full season. On the bright side, PC owners can get a 10% discount by pre-purchasing. PS3 gamers, who will get access to the game on October 15th, will have the option of buying the episodes individually or in bulk.
