Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Gameplay Footage Features Stealth, Head Stabbing

Ever wonder what it's like to be Daryl Dixon? Well, wonder no longer. IGN’s Up At Noon showed off extensive gameplay footage from first-person shooter The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct today.

Survival Instinct is a prequel to the events of the TV show. Merle and Daryl Dixon must travel across the zombie-infested countryside to reach a possible safe zone in Atlanta. Along the way they'll have to forage for supplies. They can fight walkers if need be but stealth is often preferable.

During Up At Noon, Terminal Reality's Glenn Gamble discussed the branching storylines of the game. Players will have to choose what route they travel through the South. They'll also have to decide which survivors to take with them on their journey and which to leave behind. In order to see everything the game has to offer, you'll need to play it multiple times.

Whenever a game based on a television show is announced, it invites skepticism. The default assumption is that it's a cheap cash-in on a popular franchise. Still, Survival Instinct sounds like it might have enough depth to be entertaining to gamers who aren't even Walking Dead fans.

Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is in development for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Terminal Reality expects to release it next year.
