Warframe Archwing Update Introduces Space Battles

Big changes are coming in the PlayStation 4 version of Warframe today, with the Archwing update adding loads of new content and freaking space battles to the free-to-play third-person action game’s already impressive resume.

Warframe launched about a year ago, giving PlayStation 4 gamers something meaty to sink their teeth into when the console first launched and there was little else to play. Over the past 12 months, the folks at Digital Extremes have kept the new content coming, giving space ninjas more and more reasons to keep returning to one of the most successful and well put together gratis games available.

Today, Associate Producer Pat Kudirka announced the launch of the Archwing update, which includes new weapons, a new Frame to pilot, additional maps and, yes, the ability to fly around and wage war in the vastness of space.

“Archwing is a new technology unique to Tenno and Warframes, allowing you to combat enemy forces in space,” explains Kudirka. “Building the Archwing will require players to follow a quest available at Mastery Rank 2 in order to retrieve the necessary components. Once you assemble the Odonata Archwing, you’re free to take off and start turning Grineer into stardust.”

Along with the Archwing and its special missions, players will also be able to get their hands on Libo starting today, a new Warframe that has a hat full of deadly secrets. No, seriously, the dude can manipulate the battlefield with dimensional portals that pull allies or enemies into rift space.

As if a new playable character and space combat weren’t enough, the Archwing update boasts several other highly requested updates, too. Players can further customize their Warframe with logos from six Syndicates, there’s new ability mods and updates, as well as a new Corpus Ice Planet for players to explore and, you know, destroy loads of enemies in.

Still need more? Then how about a new user interface panel, directional melee adjustments to make the recently improved fisticuffs even better, new weapons, enemies and even a change to PS4 controls that should make it easier than ever to activate your ability powers.

Really, there’s a lot to go through, so you might want to read that original link at the top of the post if you want all of the details, but I think I touched on the most important stuff. In short: More awesome stuff being plugged into Warframe for the PS4. If you haven’t tried it out yet, one of the more recent updates completely overhauled the game’s flow and tutorials, making now a perfect time to get involved. Did I mention that they added space battles? Because they totally did. Like, ninja battles, but totally in space.
