Watch Dogs For Wii U Won't Have DLC

One of the biggest debacles involving the Wii U this year is the delay of a couple of games that were supposed to release during a certain period but were delayed for unspecified reasons. One of the games was Watch Dogs. The game was originally scheduled to release in the spring for all major gaming platforms... except, the Wii U version got hit with a major delay and it won't be receiving any of the DLC.

Ubisoft made it known back in March that the Wii U version of the game wouldn't be arriving with the Xbox One, PC and PS4 version of the game. Instead, they revealed that the game would be pushed back to the holiday season for Nintendo's home console. They stated that the team that was working on the Wii U version had to be moved to finish up the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game and that is what caused the delay.

Well, if you thought that the pushing the game back to the holiday season would at least net Nintendo fans some extra DLC, think again. The official Watch Dogs twitter account decided to put a stop to any hope of seeing the Watch Dogs DLC appear on Nintendo's home console, tweeting...

It's quite sad really because it perpetuates the problem facing the Wii U and third-party support: Third-party publishers claim no one is buying the Wii U (which isn't really true at all, and it's still ahead of the Xbox One), they delay games, restrict content or fail to properly port the games.

Essentially, they build up a case as to why Wii U owners wouldn't want to support third-party publishers given that they seem to be going out of their way to make certain games look as unappealing to the general consumer as possible.

Knowing that Watch Dogs not only arrived late for the Wii U, but also arrives without any additional DLC just kind of leaves a sour taste in the mouths of many gamers. In fact, many of the responses to the tweet were basically gamers explaining why they don't like the current trend of poor support for Nintendo's platform.

Funnily enough, Ubisoft has even stated that they have games waiting in the wings for the Wii U – two exclusives to be exact – but they've opted not to release the games just yet because they feel as if the console needs to grow its install base.

Ultimately, I imagine a lot of third-party publishers want the demographic breadth that the original Wii had in order to pump out shovelware and know that there would be enough gullible people out there to pick it up without doing their homework, a common and unfortunate circumstance of the Wii's software library. The games that do sell for the Wii U happen to be of a specific caliber and many gamers expect high-quality outings for the system. The only question remaining now is if Watch Dogs on the Wii U will be a commendable port or a shoddy port?
