The Virtual Console and WiiWare have received one new game apiece today. As usual, the WiiWare addition is bizarre and the Virtual Console addition is an awesome retro title.
The new VC game is Super Punch-Out!!, originally released for the SNES in 1994. Like its NES predecessor Punch-Out!!, Super Punch-Out!! is an arcade-style boxing game that stars Little Mac, an undersized fighter trying to win the World Video Boxing Association belt. It costs 800 Wii Points ($8) and will be a good way to tide yourself over until the new Wii Punch-Out!! games arrives in May. WiiWare, meanwhile, now offers Bonsai Barber for 1000 Wii Points ($10). It's a "first-person groomer" game that charges you with cutting the hair of 12 strangely-coiffed characters. There's over 30 hair styles you can create with your scissors, razors, combs, and hairspray and you can send photos of your work to friends. Fun fact: Bonsai was developed by Zoonami, a studio founded by GoldenEye 007 director/producer Martin Hollis. Starting next week, VC and WiiWare won't be the only Nintendo services receiving new content weekly. The Nintendo DSi, the next iteration of the DS, will be released next week and one of the new features coming with it is the Nintendo DSi Shop. DSi owners will be able to buy new games and applications ("DSiWare") through the shop. |
