XpanD's X103 3D Glasses Announced For 3D-Ready TVs

published: 2010-03-16 12:17:03
Let the invasion begin. Even though every other movie seemingly seems to be in 3D these days, what’s worse is that the transition is about to take place on normal television as well. Nevertheless, for gamers who don't mind spending a little extra to get a little more "immersion" out of their gaming experience are probably stoked about the announcement of XSpanD's universal X103 3D ready glasses.

According to the press release, Ami Dror, XpanD Chief Strategy Officer commented, saying.…
“While major television manufacturers are beginning to roll out their first 3D-ready television models, a key to widespread adoption lies in the ability for consumers to use their 3D glasses with any display that is capable of showing 3D content,” …“The main problem with display-linked active glasses lies within the incapability to use these glasses with a 3D TV that is manufactured by another brand. While we support TV manufacturers by manufacturing glasses for them, we are also requested by the same manufacturers to sell universal active glasses that will work with all the modern 3D TVs,”

One of these days I’ll need to find out how many people actually own HDTVs and how many of them would be willing to let them go in place of upgrading (?) to a 3D-TV. Regardless, the upside to the X103 3D glasses is that they work both domestically and at cinemas. So gamers – whenever they plan on leaving their man caves – can do so and bring their chunky glasses with them to the theatres.

Unsurprisingly enough, Sony and Microsoft are planning on rolling out more 3D-ready games in the near future (via Gamasutra) so these glasses might come in handy after all.
