Oh, so you’re back for more console-on-console pwnage, eh? Well in the first round of the fight the Xbox 360 took things up swiftly with its year-head start. However, after the launch of the Wii and PS3, things have sizzled up between the three big gaming giants. Namely, Nintendo’s giant killer, the Wii, is erecting through the sales charts like Eddie Murphy taking a stroll through the effeminate side of West Hollywood.
The amazing thing about the Wii is that its general premise actually kind of sucks. Really, it doesn’t look all that cool – when compared to the PS3 anyway. And the entire aesthetic shtick is lacking in more ways than I need to mention. The Wii-mote is innovative, yes, but it’s nothing like what the Powerglove was, almost twenty years ago. Still, the masters of casual gameplay (i.e., Nintendo) have managed to topple the big boys (i.e., Sony & MS) with amazing sales around the world, and especially on the scalper island that used to be Ebay.
And according to PunchJump, it looks like the Wii is garnishing some respective figures on Ebay. Not only that, even with the PS3's mildly successful launch in the PAL territories – though, namely Australia – the Big ‘N’s little Wii is still kicking butt in the overall units shipped and installed. Matters don’t help Sony any better with the declining PS3 prices on Ebay, and the incessant high-end costs of production. Nintendo is scoring big points in the video game arena, and I don’t think Microsoft or Sony like the way the high scores are racking up for the Big 'N'.
And even though Chris Satchell, in his interview with CVG, dogged the Wii and PS3's motion-sensing capabilities, Mr. Satchell’s comments go unmerited when compared to the Wii’s sales. Heck, Nintendo is eating up financial success like George Lucas at a pork sampling convention...or rather, Mark Hamill at an all-you–can-smoke cigarette buffet. Still, you get my drift.
Even with the Xbox 360 Elite around the corner, I can’t imagine that helping M$’s case. The main problem is that it’s a barely cheaper (and less qualified) version of the PlayStation 3. Talk about wallet-raping to the extreme. The only way the Elite will work is if it’ll eventually take the price point of the Pro system, stays black, and the HDD cost drops significantly. But we’re already being told that the black color scheme isn’t going to stay. Still, with Nintendo catching up really fast in total units shipped and sold of the Wii (e.g., Wii = 6 million, Xbox 360 = 9 million), it’s making the holiday season of 2007 look like a potential bad break-up for the Wii60.
Once Nintendo evens the installed-base score with Microsoft , it’ll nearly become eye-busting to see how Gates and Co., retaliates. But for those of you thinking that the Xbox’s Halo 3 will be the surefire ace-up-the-sleeve for M$ come this holiday season...well, all I can say for now is that such a postulate is another topic for another article.

Microsoft's ace card aka 'Halo 3' will be good, however, how good will metroid prime 3 be? From what i have played it could become one of the best games ever made. The controls are responsive - quicker than rosie o donnel to an open buffet!. The graphics are up to the standards of good 360 games. And last but not least the sound within the game is jaw dropping - only helped further by its full orchestral pieces.
Well put, but I think you're dead wrong when you say the premise "sucks". The premise is genious and all of the strength of this system. The Wii at the heart is about inclusion. The Guardian magazine states that about 30% of gamers are PC Gamers and if you ask yourself why PC Games don't translate well to consoles the answer is simple, console games suck at replicating the precision of mouse movements. With the Wii, game types like FPS, Strategy Games like C&C, or God-Games like The Sims make so much sense. But furthermore the 3D abilities of the controller make sense for sports games like Madden, or Tiger Wood Golf, read reviews about how these breathe new life into the games. Finally, and most suprising for me is Nintendo's vision that non-gamer types would be able to play the Wii because of its intuitive controller scheme seems to be spot-on. I didn't think this would happen, but it has. The premise is a brilliant premise and it seems to be working out for Nintendo.
The Wii success and the lack luster sales of the Xbox360 & PS3 is due to the fact that the Wii is geared toward the "casual gamer" and the Xbox360 & PS3 is geared towards the "hardcore gamer" Microsoft and Sony got their signals wrong believing that all gamers are "hardcore" and would spend over $400.00 for a gaming console. The Wii will continue with great success and the Xbox360 and the PS3 will have their sales increase when more better games are released on their consoles.
Its only a matter of time before everyone gets tired of playing gamecube and ps2 ports on the Wii. Lets face it boys and girls...I hate to say it (I am a nintendo fanboy for life, and I do own a wii) but towards the end of 2008 you will see a crap load of used wii's in gamestop's and EB. The motion sensor was a great idea, but so far its just not really all that. I did not pay 250$ to play resident evil 4 and manhunt again....I still love mario, samus and zelda, but I just dont think they can do it alone....they sure didn't on the gamecube....I ran a gamestop for about two years and I known how crazy some diehard fans can be.....but come 2008 and beyond the wii's graphics WILL be a serious problem....It doesnt make me happy to say this, but sadly, its true.....
I feel like adding Sony's PS3 to my list of things with too many sequels, which also includes "The Land Before Time" series and "Final Fantasy". I love FF, but when I saw an advertisement for Final Fantasy X-2 I almost soiled myself laughing. It seems simpler just to say Final Fantasy XI. Originality is becoming less and less popular, and Sony's 'innovative' additions are becoming more and more expensive. That Blu-ray player is what makes the PS3 so damned expensive, and you know what? You're better off buying a normal DVD player, because not every movie is available in Blu-ray's format.
The Wii isn't all about the crazy motion-sensing remote control. Admittedly it has the least graphical quality of the three, but graphics aren't everything- the fact that old arcade games are still popular with some audiences proves that. I like the Wii because it features the return of many old favorites, and with its graphic capabilites(limited though they are), they are being displayed in an entirely new light.
For the people who claim that "playing shooters with the Wii remote is near impossible", that is a matter of personal skill. Because you aren't good at something doesn't make it bad. That's first-grade logic, people. I personally do not have a Wii, but I sneak over to my friend's house every time my parents aren't looking to play it.
Face it Sony, Nintendo has twice the Wii you'll ever have.(Had to say it.)
the wii dosn't advance in its tectnoligy. the only thing they did diffrent from gamecube was the sesnors and they will burn out soon with wiis crappy harddrive and lack of grafics. PS3 didn't steal the wiis sensors, but bowwored the blueprints to make it better. so PS3's sensors will last much longer then wii's will and thats why PS3 cost more. and because its way better with the fact that you have blu ray that plays dvds, along with grafices, and a hdd harddrive. so overall i say PS3 is better.
YOU ARE A NOOB. GO DIE. Wii isnt close to as good as a 360 let alone the PS3. So the wii has some retarded controls that you move. The games suck, no internet or good online play, no blue ray. It cant do crap. It has the graphics of an N64. I bought a wii and sold it with in a month. That is the most crappy console ever, and is deffinetly not the next gen console. Listen to the name of it. The wii?
only gay fags like you would play one.
Thats rich Mojo, Your obivously a Sony/Microsoft fanboy who is sadden by the fact that your holy grail of a system is getting it's HD ass handed to it by the Wii. The Grapics aren't too bad, but nobody seems to care because it's outselling the other two by miles.
A lot of Nintendo's games have beaten Sony's and Microsofts games for game of the year. Halo is a great game, But it only beats Metroid because it's mutliplayer is just amazing. Halo has nothing on Metroid other then that. Mario is still kicking ass also. He's won mutliple games of the year.
The controls are better then your systems at least. Sony is inconviently copying the Wii because it's superior in sales over their PS3. If it's so terrible then why is the PS3 trying to copy them? Plus, The controls are so well recived and praised. Besides, Isn't moving the controller the way to play a game peroid?
The online is good for me, I love playing SSBB with others, Mario Kart works perfectly. Just because it isn't Xbox live doesn't make it crap. It just makes you a idiot.
The graphics ain't the best but hey, It's understandable and still fun to look at,Just because it doesn't look like real life doesn't make it crap. Thats the only gripe people have with the Wii. Hilarious no? You just don't understand that grapics are just a minor peice of a game.
Gay fags play the Wii? I guess 40 million people are fags then? Yeah, Makes logical sense to me... But you are right about one thing. The Wii isn't close to as good as the Xbox or PS3...
