It may not have been the funniest joke at the Oscars last night, but Jon Stewart was able to elicit a mild chuckle from gamers. Upon returning from commercial break Stewart was “caught” off-guard playing a round of Wii Tennis on one of the huge projection screens onstage.

Jon had far better moments to remember, most notably bringing the best song winner back onstage to give her a proper moment to speak. The question is how much did Nintendo pay for that plug? Around 40 million people watch the Oscars, and that’s even more exposure for the Wii. Then again, the console has become so pervasive in our culture that it’s likely the Wii Sports showcase was the sole idea of the Oscar producers.
