Adventuring in the ancient Kingdom of Gorudo, you are the mighty wizard, Cyrus. The land is in turmoil and your magical powers are the only thing that can save the land from invading monsters. You have mastered the ancient magics of…wait, brick breaking? Awesome! Wizorb is coming to PlayStation Network next week and, yep, it mixes classic RPG elements with all the twitch-gameplay of a brick breaking game.
Coming from Beatshapers and Tribute Games, Wizorb is the next title in an increasingly popular genre of games that mixes light RPG gameplay with battles that do away with the classic turn-based slashfest and replace it instead with something totally unique. This time around, it’s brick breaking and, honestly, it looks pretty dang radical to me.
A pair of Beatshapers/Tribute Games reps dropped by the PlayStation Blog recently, giving all of the final details for Wizorb’s July 24 release as a PlayStation Mini. The game will be available for $3.99 on PlayStation 3 and the PSP and (eventually) the Vita.
Like any good RPG, Wizorb offers towns full of citizens to interact with and take quests from as you try to earn enough money to help them rebuild their once-great city. Your quests will take you into dungeons where Cyrus will enter a magical sphere to explore, battle monsters and collect loads of loot. The player will control a magic wand at the bottom of the screen in order to keep Cyrus moving.
Your wizarding arsenal comes complete with a variety of spells to unleash and the classic-style graphics make Wizorb something of a treat to look at. You’ll also take part in epic boss battles as you explore 60 dungeons spread across five main maps.
I’m something of a nut for these kinds of games. I had to force myself to abandon PuzzleQuest years ago so Wizorb, to me, feels something like offering a bump to a junkie. I have a bad feeling I’m going to relapse once the game releases on PSN during next Tuesday’s store update.
