Call of Duty: World at War is about eight months old so releasing a companion program for the iPhone now isn't the most timely move. That's what Treyarch did today, though.
The program, now available through iTunes for no charge, allows you to stay plugged into the WaW community at all times. It allows you to receive news on the game as well as track you and your friends' stats. Only stats for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions can be accessed, though:
Stat-Tracking: Check your rank on key stats like K/D ratio, win/lose record and more.
Performance Tracking: Gain quick access to all of your weapon usage.
Link with Friends: Monitor online activity, and the stats of friends with linked accounts on www.CoDWaW.com to compare progress.
News: Access the latest news/blogs, Treyarch’s community Twitter feed (Twitter: JD_2020), as well as the latest on new maps, double XP weekends and contests.
There's no mention of whether a similar program will be offered for Modern Warfare 2>, the next game in the Call of Duty series. Perhaps they're using the WaW iPhone app to gauge gamer interest and smooth out the wrinkles before a different version is released for MW2.
