World of Warcraft's upcoming Cataclysm will add several coastal and underwater areas to the game. To get to and from these new zones, Blizzard is adding submarines as well.
"We actually have two brand new subs that we made for Cataclysm. These submarines will be used as transports," said Blizzard in a fan Q&A. "We have one for gnomes and one for goblins. The subs are huge too! Both are about the size of the Gunships from Icecrown." It sounds like they're going to be uncontrollable vehicles that travel along a set path between ports, sort of like the boats or airships already in WoW. Still, if underwater travel becomes a big part of the game, you wonder if they'll end up adding underwater mounts as well. Maybe engineers will be able to craft one-man subs? Blizzard newfound love of the sea will result in upgraded water effects and new aquatic areas in existing zones, as well. "We are opening up as many places as we can to the water in Cataclysm. A few examples would be Blasted Lands, Stonetalon and Shimmering Flats. Heck, Shimmering Flats is a lake now! |
