The record-setting launch of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King has finally been bested. The successor to the throne is the latest WoW expansion, Cataclysm.

Cataclysm sold 3.3 million copies on December 7th. That was the day it launched in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Its one-day total bested Lich King's mark by about half a million.

The expansion revamps the "old world" of Azeroth, adding new zones and allowing players to fly freely there for the first time. It can be purchased digitally or in stores for $39.99. A $79.99 Collector's Edition is also available.
