XBox 360 In 2008: The Hot Five Games

XBox 360 In 2008: The Hot Five Games The year is at a close, which means the Blend Games staff will gather this weekend to drink cheap whiskey and discuss gaming in 2007. At some point a list of our favorite games for the year will come out of the ordeal, but before we get to that it’s time to look forward. After all, it was nice playing Crackdown but it’s no time to get complacent with our gaming. There’s a brand new stack of titles just itching to be played. Hopefully none of them have any debilitating diseases that will require daily cream application.

First up is the Xbox 360, a system that has been all too quiet on its future. Peter Moore set the stage for Fall 2007 at E3 when he emphasized Microsoft’s focus on the immediate future. But now we’re glancing around and wondering what the hell could follow such a stellar year for the system. Below you’ll find the games we’re most looking forward to on the big white console. If you were wondering, the list doesn’t assuage our worry that Microsoft’s first party lineup is crumbling.

5. Splinter Cell Conviction

The fifth entrant into the series got a boost of confidence from the masses when it was delayed. Yup, here’s an example of a good delay. Hell, after Double Agent a permanent delay felt like a decent move. But with Ubisoft’s impeccable Montreal team at the helm once more, and a little Assassin’s Creed crowd mechanism thrown in, the latest Fisher story may just be the shot in the arm a fledgling series needs.

4. Too Human

The controversy of the lawsuits, bad previews and all around comedy of errors the game became in the past is all over. It’s now time for Silicon Knights to unleash their gestating child and see if it stands or falls into a big bag of meat on the floor. Everything is there to make the game great, and we only have precious few months to wait. A delay into 2009 would be a prime example of a bad delay. Just in case you were wondering.

3. Devil May Cry 4

Nero and Dante and fast, furious, intense action is all we really need. From the looks of things Capcom has the formula down to a science and part four of the series won’t likely disappoint fans. And for any Xbox fans who have missed past iterations, think of this as sort of like Ninja Gaiden with guns. Capcom is unleashing the game in the winter (just like last year’s surprise Lost Planet), and DMC4 appears to have made a standard follow up into a must have gaming experience.

2. Resident Evil 5

Hello Capcom, nice to see you again. If you need any proof that Capcom is going to have a banner year in 2008, look no further than the trailer for Resident Evil 5. We’ve heard very little about the game since its official announcement. That’s kind of OK – except for the fact we’re aching to hear more, but we’re expecting nothing less than the greatness of RE4 in ridiculous high definition blood splattering glory. It doesn’t matter whose head you’re blowing off when they are intent on eating your arm.

1. Ninja Gaiden 2

The only title coming down the pipe for the 360 that could hope to match the flawless design and gameplay of Super Mario Galaxy is Team Ninja’s Ninja Gaiden 2. The sequel to arguably the best action game of the last generation, and even one of the best of all time, is set to come out soon. How soon? We’re still saying a Spring 2008 release is on the horizon.

We’ve all seen the gory spurts of blood coming from dismembered enemies in the videos, and that’s enough to get any Gaiden fan on board. But Itagaki has indicated the game will force players to finish off their foe, rather than leaving them a flopping torso. In Ninja Gaiden 2 you will have a replenishing health bar, but only if you kill all enemies in a battle. Your limbs now belong to Ryu Hyabusa.

Other titles we have our eye on: Fable 2, Halo Wars, Alan Wake, Fallout 3, Rainbow Six Vegas 2

It doesn't say PS3 anywhere in the title.
Do you morons get paid to do this everywhere there is a 360 post?

Hey matt, shut up!!.. please, think before write... don't be so pathetic. The 360 is a great machine with great games, the ps3 is a great machine too, but without a clear vision. By the way...LittleBigPlanet... LOL

  1. Half_-_Blood Says:

matt matt matt its people like you who just sputer out random nonsense about biased information that leads to all this fanboy-battle bull crap now im not saying i dont lean to one side and it is towards the ps3 because i believe it has more potential to be a great system IN THE LONG RUN i agree but making waves is just stupid, xbots dont give the ps3 a chance cause in their mind if it aint halo it aint worth playing

  1. LORDHINES Says:

What kind of a f*cking moron posts a list with half of the games being cross platform? and then forgets to post the really good AAA exclusives? Moron. Fail 100%

  1. Tony Says:

It is a stupid list. How can he list games like DMC4 and not, GTA4. Seriously what will be bigger? Plus what is he putting non-exclusive games on the list for when we have Alan Wake, Fable 2, Halo Wars, and more.

  1. Ninja SkyMan Says:

You do have to realize all of the IP that Microsoft owns and they could pull any out. (hoping for KI3). This years e3 will be intersting because there will be some BIG announcements for Microsoft and Nintendo. sony will just show off their pre-existing titles but the other two will be showing new stuff and possibly new deals. I hear that Alan Wake (which is 360 and pc exclusive) will be more graphically superior to even the mighty Crysis. You also have to realize that Gears 2 will be coming out shortly, they already planned it for a trilogy, and that Mass Effect sequels will be out exclusively as Microsoft Games Studios will be publishing them. Personally I am looking forward to new and exciting things and not the same boring stuff touted. Personally FF7 was the last great Final Fantasy and they have been trying to live off that hype. FF6 was the best Final Fantasy all of which you can play on your xbox. Metal Gear Solid will eventually go over to pc and 360 so the only one that has potential is Little Big Planet which being a new IP could bomb. Let's not forget what happen to Lair and Heavenly Sword. The only ps3 game with a good buzz is Ninja Gaiden Sigma which is basically Black with added material.

  1. Dingus Says:

LOL what a sad list. *sells 360*

  1. Sol-Train Says:

Half-_-Blood, i agree with you, i dont want to start a battle of fanboys, but heres the deal, if your in it for games, and i mean pure games, get an xbox, cause we all know that has better games RIGHT NOW, but lets be serious here, the xbox is great for games, but when it comes to simple tasks that even the last generation could do (ie DVD playback) it is well below the industry standard, cause when i watch movies on my xbox 360 i NEED the subtitles on otherwise i can not tell what the fuck jim carey is saying to jeff daniels, but the ps3 does quite well at the ol' dvd playback, it UPSCALES DVDS so i watch dvds on that now, cause it makes the dvds just beautiful, so ya, xbox is better for pure gaming RIGHT NOW, but the ps3 has more potential for games, MGS4&MGO, LBP, KZ2, God of War 3, GT5, and it is an open platform that allows moding like in UT3, which is amazing i might add, and also did i forget to mention HOME, or PlayTv (Sony's PS3 DVR addon that you will see in the near future), or Remote play, and everyone will admit that the greatest console game library is the PS2, so sony knows games, and did i mention the Cell processor has not even reached near its full potential, naughty dog (the dev's of Uncharted Drake Fortune) estamate they used 40% of the PS3's power, interesting, cause that is one of the most beautiful games to ever grace a console, so yes XBOX 360 = NOW, PS3 = SOON

  1. slayer shunt Says:

"it is well below the industry standard, cause when i watch movies on my xbox 360 i NEED the subtitles on"

the 360 allows subtitles, go into the advanced menu with a standard controller (or the actual remote if you have it) its the 2nd button in, it also allows you to select the language for subtitles in there also

    anyways the games i'm most looking forward to in 2008 are;
Rock Band (not avaliable yet in europe) which will either be huge, or a complete flop. Fable 2: again a bit dicey and probably GTA:4
