We broke the news earlier in the week about the Xbox 360 Elite hitting store shelves, as well as Microsoft’s take on the trade-ins. But All hype, propaganda and rants aside, the Xbox 360 Elite is officially on store shelves. So what are you getting and is it worth it for me to repeat the features of something a lot of gamers seem to care very little about?
While the Xbox 360 Elite – running for the purchasable price of $479 – contains all the good things from the Premium, and some, it’s not quite hitting the right marker with gamers. We’ve received more of a disgruntled retort from gamers who all seem to think that the 360 Elite is a poor attempt at making the PS3 look like a sour deal.
Personally, I’m not at liberty to say whether the Elite is worth it or not. But I will state that as a suggestion to individuals who are into the tech-side of gaming...who don’t own an Xbox 360...the Elite isn’t a bad console. But then again, neither is the PlayStation 3. Anyway, we’ll give you a run-down of the Xbox 360 Elite’s sales progress as soon as they become available. In the meantime, here’s a list of features that come with the Xbox 360 Elite.

The Elite is a good machine. All the benefits of a Xbox 360 wtih lots of extra hard disk space and HDMI capablities (cable included). No built-in WiFi - you betcha - A/B/G cannot handle HD content streaming. And the fact that it is equiped with only a DVD - once again, a smart move. Neither Blu-Ray nor HD-DVD is a slam dunk. Betting the farm on one format or the other is frought with unneccesary risk.
If you are looking for a next gen machine the Elite certainly makes a lot more sense then a PS3. Maybe in a couple of years the PS3 will make sense, but mine is gone. There just wasn't a good reason to keep it. The Wii? Oh yah, cool. Xbox 360? - great games and an expanding library, media center streaming, acrade, expandable. PS3? - Blu-Ray (another great Sony format right there with BetaMax, UMC, Memory Stick)...ah...let's see...ah...Metal Gear Solid...yah that's it.
Let's face it, the Wii is expanding the gaming community and the Xbox 360 is redefining game console capabilities. The PS3 is standing on the shoulders of the PS2 and that's about it.
Yea Elite is a corny name, it's a smack in the face to people who built microsoft's console gaming division and are now stuck with their lamer proto systems of the same make, unless they pay up... and in all honesty it shows a real weakness in the marketplace, It shows me, A happy ps3-psp owner/H-brewer, and multiple console gamer as well... That they are afraid that Sony did get it right, sad part is, Microsoft didn't include blu-ray technology, and controversial as it may be, Blu-Ray will rule the world... They're going out slugging, but they're not going to be slugging long.
I have to say the Xbox 360 Elite is like putting pimped out rims on a Ford Taurus.
The only reason MS put this together is they know what we already know the console cannnot compete with the Playstation 3.
By year end the Playstation 3 news/reporting will have taken on a totally different tone. Xbox will firmly have landed in 3rd selling position and the gotta own games will all be from the Playstation 3. Just do your own homework on releases such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy, Little big planet, Home, Heavenly Sword, Killzone; goodness you could keep on going.
MS is in serious trouble and this extra heavy paperweight (xbox 360 elite) will cost much more than you expect when it is ditched for the much better and cheaper solution - Playstation 3.
It is also ridiculous to write an article claiming the xbox is comparable to the Playstation 3. Please start to get real and really dig into the difference between the systems. The launch games for the PS3 are better graphically than 2nd gen xbox 360 games and the quality difference in the games is only going to be getting worse for the xbox as the months fly by.
