Xbox 360: Eternal Sonata Of The Spotless Mind

The Charlie Kaufman-like premise of this game alone makes me glad that I chose to sit in my boxers and write about video games inside, as opposed to actually going out into the world. Here's exactly what's made me give agoraphobia a big hug:

"Eternal Sonata [for the Xbox 360] follows the adventures of famed composer Frederic Chopin as he travels through his own dream world filled with colorful characters and stunning locales. In a land where music influences both combat and exploration, Chopin sets out on a journey not only of self-discovery, but also one of redemption." Now, if you followed that, then you'll agree that this is not only the first game featuring an 19th century classical composer as a hero, but also the first to ever suggest that Chopin was gay--because there's no way that "self-discovery" is not a euphemism for the guy realizing he likes chugging down whole notes.

Chopin's opinion of the organ section aside, what makes this game even crazier is that I don't think the developers know how insane the concept is. Rather than being absurd but having a self-awareness about it like the upcoming Mushroom Men or the Oddworld series, the game is the equivalent of a coke addict who thinks the rocket suit in his backyard would be perfectly safe if his cat would just learn how to speak Vietnamese. He believes that! And, by the looks of this game and its new trailer (see below), the developers never thought for a moment how screwed up (albeit awesome-sounding) this game would be--and that's what got me looking forward to it, even with the cartoon-ish graphics that I don't generally go for.

As we here at CB Games have gone over before, this game may very well cross over onto other platforms, but, for now, Sonata is strictly Xbox 360 with a general release date for this summer.
