Before answering the obvious question, let’s take a stroll through this pay-per-view style match-up: Both games have sexually explicit content, both games contain foul language and both games encourage the player to be abnormally violent. Based on the basics, it seems like a tie. But it’s not.
Now, since Saints Row allows the gamer to create their own character it adds a bit of intrigue and immersion – as to how the character develops in the overall sense. With GTA’s mission-based character developments, it can sometimes seem like the protagonist of the story only has a life in-between mission segments. Whether this will change with GTA IV is something I’m highly doubtful of. But character creation/story aside, GTA IV kicks butt in the graphical department.
While Saint’s Row looks kind of okay by itself – when compared to the uber-lighting effects of GTA IV, Saint’s Row turns into a craggily looking turd that was somehow transformed into game code. Why the developers would turn fecal matter into interactive content is beyond me. But Saint’s Row for the PS3 best be prepared to retire on retailers’ shelves after anyone gets a glimpse of this comparison trailer. Of course, don’t take my word for it...the visual competency of GT’s footage says it all. Enjoy.
