Today Xbox Live general manager Marc Whiten announced at industry conference NewTeeVeeLive that the autumn update for Xbox Live will be released on November 17th. The update adds support for social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, as well as a few other new features.
The Video Marketplace is being rebranded as the Zune Marketplace and will now offer steaming HD videos in 1080p. Up to seven friends can watch videos together and communicate through voice chat to give it a "movie night" feel. Online radio service Last.fm allows you to create personalized radio stations and play them during your gaming sessions. For those of you curious about the world outside of your living room, a "News and More" channel is being added that features content from MSNBC, The New Yorker and Dilbert.
"News and More" and Zune Marketplace will be available to Xbox Live Silver users but you'll need a Gold subscription for all of the other features just mentioned. However, from November 20th to November 23rd, Microsoft will allow Xbox Live Silver customers to experience all of the Gold membership benefits (including the content from this update and multiplayer gaming) for free.
