Aliens: Colonial Marines New Video Pits Marines Vs Aliens

Sega and Gearbox Software released a new developer diary for Aliens: Colonial Marines, this time the team talks about what it's like having fully geared colonial marines take on a planet infested with countless xenomorphs and a few of the surprises that lay store for the semi-prepared marines.

One interesting thing is that the team mentions that the main character will be uniquely done from other main characters in first-person shooters. I don't really know what that means, but I always felt that Call of Duty actually had a unique cast of playable characters ever since Modern Warfare. So I'm definitely interested in what Gearbox plans to do for the main protagonist in Colonial Marines.

Man, I really, really hope that the game maintains that same sense of horror and ambiguity that the first two movies had, where you had no idea where the aliens would come from or how they would attack. The fact that they would use shafts, ducts, hallways, ceilings and even the floor made it that much more harrowing.

Right now a lot of the focus of the gameplay is on the action, and while iron-sights and scopes are cool, I'm hoping that measure of xenomorphic-stealth plays a big part in the game so that players are always on their toes and tip-toeing through scenarios as to avoid being faceplant-fodder.

Gearbox has a ways to go before Aliens hits its release date next year, so I'm hoping they brush up all the AI stuff and it's not just a run-of-the-mill Hollywood shooter. You can pre-order the game now or learn more by paying a visit to the Official Website.
