Assassin's Creed 3 Coming To Vita?

Assassin's Creed 3 could be coming to another platform: the PS Vita. The European retailer Zavvi listed a Vita version of the open-world assassination briefly before it was pulled down.

The listing was found and screen-capped by a NeoGAF user. It's the same person who found Ghost Recon: Final Mission on GAME's website. The Vita AC3, like Final Mission, had box art to go along with its listing. That makes it less likely that the Vita version is a simply a retailer error.

The interesting thing about the listing is that it mentions an October 31st release date. That's the same day that the Xbox 360, PS3, PC versions of AC3 are supposed to hit stores in PAL territories. If the Vita is going to get the game on the same day as those other platforms, why haven't we heard anything about the Vita edition in these past couple months? Why wasn't it announced right from the start?

It's possible that Ubisoft and Sony wanted to keep the Vita AC3 a surprise. It'd be a nice piece of news to share during one of the companies' E3 press conferences on June 4th. Companies do like to have big reveals to wow the crowd.

Another possibility is that the date the retailer lists is simply wrong. Retailers sometimes put placeholder dates on games absent any confirmed information. The release date for the other versions of AC3 seems like as good of an estimate as any.

We already knew that Ubisoft was making some kind of Creed game for Vita. They announced such during last year's Gamescom, but didn't provide any details. A handheld version of AC3 sounds like a smart bet.

At any rate, if Assassin's Creed 3 really is coming to the Vita and it's due later this year or even early next year, I imagine we'll hear about it during E3 or one of the other summer conventions.
