Assassin's Creed 3 Desmond Trailer Recaps The Series' Story

The Assassin's Creed series isn't just about mysterious assassins killing historical figures. There's a complex frame narrative that ties all of the games together. This narrative is, admittedly, a bit tough to follow so Ubisoft has released a trailer the recaps the important information.

Ezio, Altair, and Connor aren't really the main heroes of the series. Instead, the lead protagonist is Desmond Miles. Desmond is an Assassin in the present day who is using a machine called the Animus to dive into the memories of these Assassins, who happen to be his ancestors.

By experiencing these memories, Desmond is able to locate the Pieces of Eden. These mysterious relics contain great power and are sought by the Templars, a rival secret society. The Templars want to use the Pieces to dominate the world, but the Assassins are hoping to use them to stop an impending apocalypse.

By the start of Assassin's Creed 3, Desmond and his allies have found a central vault left by the First Civilization. This advanced civilization was responsible for the pieces of Eden and left tools to help humanity avoid the apocalypse. It falls to Desmond and company to put the pieces together and save the world.
