Alex Hutchinson, the creative game director for Assassin's Creed 3, offered some insight and information about the naval battles in Assassin's Creed 3. The game is absolutely massive and the naval battles add an extra mix of strategy and intensity to the mix in order to get out of the ho-hum stabbing and killing that usually goes on in Assassin's Creed games.
Assassin's Creed 3 picked up a lot of steam coming out of E3, mostly due to the expanded and original environments and the sleek as an aluminum sheet fighting animations. But that's not all that was on display at E3. Ubisoft, during their press conference, showcased something no one even knew was in Assassin's Creed 3: naval battles. You can take your nautical combat skills and put them to the test in AC3 thanks to a completely new mode that borrows a lot of gameplay functionality from Pirates of the Burning Sea. Check it out in the waklthrough trailer below. There's no actual word on exactly how much these naval battles play a part in the game, but I imagine that if they spent years engineering this kind of feature they wouldn't relegate it to a few brief sequences here and there. I imagine this will probably play an intermittent role in Connor's adventures as he progresses through the game. We didn't get to see a lot of the ship-to-ship boarding action but I get the feeling that sort of thing will be covered in upcoming videos. You can look for Assassin's Creed 3 to launch this November for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game will also become available for the Wii U.
