Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition Coming This Summer
Atari, Wizards of the Coast and Overhaul Games revealed that they've teamed up to remake Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. The Enhanced Edition of the first BG is expected this summer.
Baldur's Gate was an isometric RPG series that started in 1998. It took place in the Forgotten Realms setting of D&D. In the first game, players start out as an orphan forced to flee their home in the middle of the night. Over the course of the two games, the player grows into one of the most powerful beings in all the Realms.
The Enhanced Editions of BG1 and BG2 come with their respective expansion packs (Tales of the Sword Coast and Throne of Bhaal). They're powered by an improved version of the original Infinity Engine. It'll feature some new content as well.
"Overhaul Games has assembled a talented team of artists, programmers and designers to enhance this timeless classic," says the press release. "To remain true to the spirit of the game, the team includes original Baldur’s Gate developers."
The PC version of the remakes will be available exclusively through digital shop Beamdog. Beamdog's Trent Oster said on Twitter that other platforms will be announced next week.
Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will arrive this summer. No word yet on when we can expect BG2:EE to arrive.
