While we Earthlings enjoy the Olympic Games, the folks over at Bigpoint have designed their own tournament of champions for players of Battlestar Galactica Online. It’s called the Festival of Kobol and, between July 27 (today) and August 12th, humans and Cylons alike can compete in a series of competitions to earn high honors and in-game rewards. So say we all.
Battlestar Galactica Online is a free-to-play browser-based massively multiplayer space combat game, seeing players fly their ships across the galaxy in order to mine precious resources and wage intergalactic war. The Festival of Kobol is a 17-day event with the top 20 players for each tournament on each server earning loads of prizes. Tournaments are held in multiple events every other day throughout the Festival, so players will have plenty of chances to land a top spot. “Our development team has put together a series of in-game events for players in BSGO,” said Bigpoint studio director Matt Norton. “We want to capture the essence of competitive sport and encourage everyone to participate. There are numerous ways to win and take part in all of the festivities.” Being a strategic battle game, you can’t exactly have players competing in events like the pole vault or basketball (though synchronized flying might actually be pretty cool to watch). Instead, these competitions will be specific to BSGO, including Decimation (PvP, most victories win), Annihilation (most damage inflicted against opposing faction wins), Crucible (most experience points gained wins) and Rock Buster (most mined resources win). These competitions will be held every other day during the Festival of Kobol with alternating days granting limited access to especially bountiful asteroids, ready to be mined. The celebration will also continue on the game store, offering a sale on specially designed golden ship skins for human and Cylon fleets.
