Bionic Commando Sells Only 27,000 In May
Capcom's been on fire lately with huge sales for Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5 but their next-gen update of another classic series, Bionic Commando, did not generate the same enthusiasm among gamers. It sold only 27,000 copies in North America last month.
That figure is the combined total for the PS3 and Xbox 360 figures, by the way. It's worth pointing out that the game was released on May 19th so it was only on the shelves for a couple weeks. Still, pretty weak considering the XBLA/PSN rerelease of the original game - Bionic Commando Rearmed - managed to rack up 130,000 downloads in a week last summer.
A PC version of the game will be released later this summer. I suppose PC sales could give the overall figure a bit of a lift but doubt it'll be substantial. The console versions of games like are generally expected to be the bigger earners, though.
Commando was developed by GRIN. Another project of theirs, Terminator Salvation was released on May 19th as well. It did slightly better in sales - 43,000 - but that's still not brag-worthy. Kinda doubt GRIN wanted to be competing against itself at stores but Salvation's launch was timed to coincide with the film's debut. Commando, meanwhile, suffered a couple days so I guess they didn't want to push it back any further than they already did.
