Sega of America and Double Fine Productions have finally unearthed release date and pricing details for upcoming platforming adventure game, The Cave, and it looks like we’ll all be spelunking into dark humor a lot sooner than you might expect.
As it turns out, The Cave will arrive on the PlayStation Network and Nintendo eShop for Wii U next Tuesday, Jan. 22. That’s right, you’re only a mere week away from finally stepping foot into the latest creation of Ron Gilbert, the mastermind behind such classics as Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion, and Double Fine, the lovely folks behind Psychonauts and Costume Quest.
For those of you gaming on the Xbox 360 and Steam, don’t worry, you won’t have to wait much longer than the PS3 and Wii U crowd. Those platforms will receive The Cave just 24 hours later on Jan. 23. The game will be going for $14.99, or 1200 MSP if you prefer to do your purchasing with imaginary currencies.
In The Cave players will be able to select a team of three characters, each with their own stories and objectives, before diving into the titular setting of a dark, foreboding and sentient cave. Players will be able to control the Hillbilly, the Scientist, the Monk, the Adventurer, the Knight, the Time Traveler and the Twins on their quest to uncover the cave’s secrets, or quite possibly meet an untimely death.
We ran a couple of videos highlighting the playable characters a while back, which you should feel free to peruse once again in order to help build up the anticipation for next week’s big release. Otherwise, more details and media can be found at The Cave’s official website.
